One on One With Whitney Duncan
WhitneyDuncan has been doing a whirl wind of interviews, shows and lots and lots of Social Marketing. You can catch up with her on Twitter, MySpace and Facebook where she post’s on a daily basis as well as her own chat show on Facebook called Whit’s Wit. During a recent scramble of interviews, Singer, Song writer Whitney Duncan a Nashville Star Finalist took some time out of her crazy day and briefly talked with Country Fan Network to discuss her new album due for release in early 2010 and to discuss her appearance on the Grand Ole Opry on October 16th and her new video and single “SKINNY DIPPIN” that seems to have a lot of people talking.
Country Fan Network- Good morning Whitney, thanks for taking time out to talk with us today
Whitney Duncan – Good morning to you and your very welcome. Thanks for having my coffee and me so early in the morning.
CFN- How are people receiving your new video?
WD – The response has been wonderful, everyone seems to really enjoy it.
CFN – How did this song get on the new album?
WD – When we were playing shows, Fans would come up to the band and ask if we could or would be playing “Skinny Dippin”. It was happening so often, that I went to Warner Brothers and said “Hey, people are coming up to us asking us to play this song, I would love to record it and see how it sounds. So the Label said let’s give it a shot. I went into the studio with a four-piece band and recorded it. It is really a rough cut, but the response has been tremendous so we cut it as a single and made the video. The song and video can both be bought on Itunes.
CFN – You have written a lot of songs for this album. How long have you been writing and how did you come up with the songs for the album?
WD – I have been writing for years and was first published as a songwriter at the age of 17. Most of what I write is personal and or something that I have seen or heard, its real life for me. The album was really spontaneous. For example, “Sorry Mama” was recorded on Oct. 11, “Open Road” on the 12th, “Said I Would” on the 13th and my favorite song on the album is “Little By Little” on the 14th and that is really how it happened, once we started everything just flowed and before you new it the album was pretty much done.
CFN – Who was the first person you called when you found out you where playing on the Grand Ole Opry?
WD – My Mom, she calls me 10 times a days so she was the first. Then I called my Grandparents. It was really special telling them. I remember as a kid they use to come over for dinner than we would all watch The Grand Ole Opry together. So that was really special to me.
CFN – You performed on the Grand Ole Opry on Friday, what was that like for you?
WD – I am not the type to be nervous, but that was the Grand Ole Opry, I was so nervous I was sick to my stomach, I was so scared. But once I started singing I was ok. It was such and incredible night. My Grandpa use to say, “You haven’t made it, till you sing on the Opry”.
CFN – How would you react if and when you’re inducted into the Grand Ole Opry?
WD – Probably faint (laughing), but I am not worried about that right now, that’s along way in the future if at all. I am new and have a lot of other goals to work on that are more realistic to work on. Singing on the Opry the other night was one of my goals, so I can scratch that off my list (laughing).
CFN – Do you get home to Scotts Hill often?
WD – Not as often as I would like, but I do get home for a couple of days at a time, with traveling a lot it’s hard. With the holidays coming it will be a little bit easier.
CFN – How do you feel about the playing time that new artist are not getting on various radio stations?
WD – Radio needs to play more of the new artist other wise getting into the top 40 is really tough, it’s tough enough as it is, but I understand both points of view of the radio stations and the new artist. As long as we as new artist keep working and getting support form people like Country Fan Network and all the venues that we do, our time will come.
Whitney thanks you so much for taking the time out of crazy schedule to talk to us here at Country Fan Network. We hope to be seeing and hearing a lot more from you in the near and long distant future.
