I WANNA PLAY – An Album To Put Musical Instruments Into The Hands Of Every Child In America

1290196573264 I remember when I was a Freshman in High School and going through exploratory in band and wanting to play an instrument so bad that it hurt.  I wanted to play the drums but they had already been picked, so I had to settle for the Trumpet which I was glad I did.  I picked it up really fast and my teacher Mr. Teal was really impressed with how fast I picked it up he wanted me to go to The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.  So he called a meeting with my parents and they understood what Mr. Teal had to say about my abilities to play the trumpet and where very proud that I picked it up so easily.  Alas, they could not afford to send me and I could not afford to buy my own Trumpet.  I was depressed and angry at the same time, wishing there was a way for me to be able to go the Conservatory of Music and be able to continue playing the Trumpet.

That was over 40 years ago, and I still think about those dreams and wonder, what if.  As we grow up, some people don’t get the opportunity to play and instrument, go to sports camps etc.. That’s why ” I WANNA PLAY” is such and incredible piece of work.

Former Governor Mike Huckabee along with his good friend Aaron Tippin and renowned producer James Stroud created this masterpiece in support of music education.  With the help of some of music greatest artist like Ronnie Milsap, Neil Sedaka, George Jones and many more, help share their creative influences tho show the importance of making music from a young age, and that every child should have the chance to make their own music to express themselves in a creative way and maybe one day be at the top in the music business.  But more importantly to be tops in life and be happy and give back to other young kids as they where given the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument.  Its not so much as to play an instrument as it to be able to express themselves with the writing of music as it is playing for themselves and others.

As I have listened to “I WANNA PLAY”  about 50 times, I hear something different each time and each time I go back to when I was child and hearing these songs for the first time with my mother, father and or grandfather.  These songs are especially important to this album because of the wide range of sounds, styles and longevity of the music that is so important.  Ray Price’s version of “Danny Boy” is the greatest rendition I have ever heard.  This song is utterly one of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung by so many artist. Lorrie Morgan takes ” You Are So Beautiful To Me” to new heights.
