Crossin Dixon Well on Their Way

CROSSIN DIXON is geared toward two things: entertainment and fun.
This is one of those rare groups that love what they do and nowhere is it more evident than the interaction between the band members, and when they take the stage. Mississippi based CROSSIN DIXON have made a name for themselves in only a short time by performing in front of over 100,000 people in 2006 playing the college and club scene. Since their formation in 2004, CROSSIN DIXON has averaged more than 100 shows a year. After an introduction from a mutual friend in 2006, the band met record producer Michael Knox (he also produces Jason Aldean).
“I haven’t heard vocals like theirs since Alabama,” Knox says. “They really have something special.” In September 2006, CROSSIN DIXON signed a record deal with Broken Bow Records in Nashville with label mates Jason Aldean and Craig Morgan. With the release of their debut single Guitar Slinger in June 2007, CROSSIN DIXON is on their way to reaching a life-long dream.

CROSSIN DIXON is Jason Miller on lead vocals, Brandon Hyde on guitar and vocals, Charlie Grantham on guitar and vocals, and Michael Bole on drums. All four members of CROSSIN DIXON hail from the state of Mississippi.

During a recent break from recording their new single at a studio on Nashville’s Music Row, Jason Miller one of the lead singer’s for the band Crossin Dixon took time out of his busy schedule to talk with us here at CountryFanNetwork.

Countryfannetwork: Hi Jason how are the guys and yourself doing?

Jason Miller: They are doing well as I am, thanks for asking.

CFN: Let me first start off by thanking you for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk with us here at CountryFanNetwork.com.

JM: Oh no problem, my pleasure.

CFN: Jason, when did you start singing?
JM: When I was about 3 years old, my Grandmother played piano at our church and she taught me as a young boy.

CFN: Who was your biggest influence growing up when it came to music?

JM: Oh my grandmother most of all and my idol music wise was George Strait, I used to listen to him all the time and sing along. The guys, unbeknown to each other, and myself, all grew up listening to Restless Heart. We all looked up to and really respected their harmonies.

CFN: When did you get serious about singing?

JM: When I was a junior at Mississippi State.

CFN: What was the name of your first band?
JM: Second Wind.

CFN: I understand you and Michael Bole (Drummer/Box) were in the band together and you merged with Brandon Hyde (Guitar/Lead Vocals) and Charlie Grantham (Guitar/Lead Vocals) from the band Krazy Jayne. When did you merge the bands and how did that come about?

JM: Well, the band Michael and I where in, Second Wind, were always playing off weekends to Krazy Jayne. The band Charlie and Brandon where in was a very high-energy rock band. Michael had called Brandon and Charlie up and told them about some things we had going on, so we all got together and practiced to see what would happen. The first time we did, our harmonies hit and we were like “OH YEAH, There is something special here. So we joined forces in 2002 and formed Kyote Wild, and almost a year to the day after that we got our record deal.

CFN: When did you get your first big break?

JM: With Hard work and opportunity. We had a gig in Huntsville Alabama and I got a call from the club owner asking if we would open instead for Jason Aldean, I spoke to the guys and we all agreed. We had a mutual friend who knew Michael Knox who produces Jason Aldean and contacted Michael the very next day and the rest is as they say history.

CFN: This is a two-part question. How does it make you feel when you hear other up and coming artist getting more play time on the radio? Second is, what do you think the reason is that you don’t get so much Radio Play time?

JM: At first frustrated, but then again its all part of the business. It doesn’t always go the way you want so you have to take it for what its worth, business is what it is and our time will come. You have to remember there are a lot of politics in the entertainment industry and you always have to put in your time and wait. The more publicity you get the better you will do and you want to do it on your own merits and for being real and keep to your beliefs and you will be ok. And when your label pushes for you and your fan base starts to grow it is really important to have a good public realtions team pushing for you with radio etc…

CFN: What do you think of country music as it is today and the fact that Pop Artist’s want to and are crossing over to country music?

JM: You cant down play it; you have to give cross over artist’s their accolades, and more power to them. You have to take the struggles with a grain of salt and remember persistence eventually pays off. Take for instance Darius Rucker, everyone knows him as being part of Hootie and the Blowfish, but now he has 3 number one hits in country music along with a hit country album, I tip my hat to him and all the others that cross over not only to country music but to any genre of music and wish them all the best of luck.

CFN: Where do you see yourselves 5 years from now?

JM: Top of the charts, playing and headlining our own.

CFN: I see you’re in the studios at Music Row working on a new single. Any time table on when that might hit the streets?

JM: Yeah we have a couple of great songs we are working on, in fact we are almost done, so its going to be up to the big boss here at the label as to which one gets released first or if at all. We’ll see, it’s only a matter of time before it’s out, hopefully soon.

CFN: Jason, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for your fans at CountryFanNetwork and we wish you and the band great success and a quick rise to the top of the charts.

JM: You’re very welcome and thank you and the fans for your support and keep requesting Crossin Dixon on your local radio stations.
