A Soldiers Hero-Toby Keith
It seems at times like now with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan that we look for hero’s to protect us and our loved ones far from us, and place upon that hero the responsibility of keeping our loved ones safe and sound and to bring them home to us as quick as possible and safely. We all seem to have different images of what that super hero should look like, be it male or female, tall or short it doesn’t matter as long as they fit our imaginations and bring our loved one back to us. So how do we come upon picking our hero, do we draw a name out of a hat, draw straws, pin the name on the globe, its none of the above, our hero is among us all the time and sees whats going on and makes a sorted effort to give of themselves 100%, not asking for anything in return or expecting anything because they gives of themselves of there own choosing. They are not looking for glory, applause, payment of any kind, they just wants to make people smile and feel as though someone other than their family cares. They do not wear some superhero costume, hide in the shadows or anything like that. And most of the time you don’t even know they are doing it. No its not top secret or some government mission or anything like that. This hero does it to makes our soldiers, sailors, marines and air force personnel smile and be joyful because he chooses to do so.
So who is this hero that I speak of ? Well he is a man of simple means, he is down to earth, understands what is really important and that life is to short and that we should all enjoy it as much as we can, and to help out others in a time of need. He is a man who carries on the tradition his father started when he was a young man and gave of himself to his country and suffered dearly for his country, he is a man who says ” Wherever our troops end up in the future, no matter if it’s Africa, Korea or Iran, I will be there to play for them” “That’s My job”
He is non other than Toby Keith. Toby has gone from Iraq, Afghanistan, Belgium, Kosovo, Germany and elsewhere and to prove it all you have to do is look at the Congressional Record. That’s because the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Sept. 17 officially praising Toby for his many efforts to increase troop moral abroad and public support for the military at home. Toby has done six tours with the USO (United Service Organization).
There a a plethora of entertainers who have gone abroad to support our troops and there are those that stay stateside and show the same support here. There is no one better than the other some just choose different ways to show there support but they all come to the same point, ensuring our troops morale is up and understand they are appreciated and loved.
Take it from a former sailor, seeing the USO on board ship (USS Constellation CV-64 – Americas Flagship) with singer/song writer Kris Kristofferson and his friends was a tremendous hit, it was talked about for months and years after. The USO does so much to lift the spirits and moral of our military and its all done by donations.
So join us and Toby Keith in supporting our troops and the USO in anyway you can to ensure this tradition continues. Please email us or the USO to find out how to get involved.
God Bless you, our troops and their families.
